Special Session on Chance Discovery, in JCIS 06, Taiwan (One day of October 8-11) See:
http://www.jcis.org/page/subconference/csi/csi.html
SCOPE:
Human should keep attention to events and situations that affect decision making. A chance is such a rare event or a situation, which provides opportunities or risks for human decision making. Noticing such an event is described as the discovery of a chance, emphasized in contrast to discovery by chance. The essential aspect of a chance is that it can be the seed of new and significant changes in the near future, i.e., risks or an opportunity, even if it is a rare or a weak-impact event.
Therefore we welcome contributions relevant especially but not restricted to the following:
Analysis of human behaviors and actions in complex environments
Analysis of serendipitous awareness of chance events
Development of intelligent support tools for chance discovery
Theories on uncertainty: the characteristics of a chance
Intelligent web design and web search
Team-work support for chance discoveries in collaboration
Creativity Support
Product design based on the discovery of new trends of users
Sales support, based on the discovery of new market trends
Finding of side-effects of medicine
Forecasting of weather changes and earthquakes
For dealing with these applications, we put emphasis on integrating computational methods and human's process to discovery. Thus, we welcome contributions from artificial intelligence, economics, finance, mathematics, psychology, etc.
Authors are invited to send their papers to the session chair Yukio Ohsawa
(ohsawa@q.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp), by April 30, 2006 in Word or PDF format donwloaded
from http://www.jcis.org/page/paper.html, written in English, and

All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings (ISIP and EI cited). A selected number of accepted papers will be expanded and revised for possible inclusion in Journal of Information Sciences (SCI cited) and other international journals such as New Mathematics and Natural Computation. Some of these selected papers will also be considered to be included in a book volume published by an internationally renowned publisher.
